Content

Want to start creating your own science podcast? In this one-day workshop, by podcast maker Eva Moeraert, you’ll discover the whole process: from idea and concept to recording and editing and walk away with your very first piece of podcast. This workshop provides a hands-on, practical introduction in a single day.

What’s in it for you?

  • Choose the right format: explore the podcast landscape and pick the form that fits your goal and your audience.
  • Concept & interview skills: build a podcast concept with a proven approach and learn how to guide and frame an interview.
  • Hands-on recording & editing: apply microphone and recording techniques and edit your first piece in Descript or Reaper.

This workshop is ideal for researchers who want a fast, practical introduction to podcasting, whether you already have an idea or just want to give it a try.

Learning outcomes

After having attended this workshop, participants will:

  • have an overview of the podcast landscape and be able to identify a format that fits their goal and audience;
  • be able to translate an initial idea into a basic podcast concept using a structured ‘from idea to format’ approach;
  • be able to record a first piece of podcast audio;
  • be able to make a basic edit using Descript or Reaper;
  • have a clearer understanding of the next steps needed to further develop their podcast idea.

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

  • Interpersonal competences:
    • oral communication
    • presentation skills
    • stakeholder awareness
  • Intellectual competences:
    • conceptual thinking
    • creativity
  • Academic research competences:
    • valorization
